General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a three and a half year undergraduate programme for students interested in pursuing a career in the nursing field. This course teaches students how to care for patients, assist doctors, and work effectively in a hospital setting. Anatomy and physiology, midwifery, and gynaecological nursing are among the topics covered in this course. After six months of internship, a student receives a diploma.

You can still enrol in GNM if you have a BSc, BCom, BA, or any other professional degree such as B.Pharma, BMLT, Btech, or BBA. Admission to GNM is primarily based on 10+2 results rather than graduation, so if you are a graduate in any field, you need not be concerned and can enrol in GNM.

Nursing is a full-time occupation, and candidates who complete their GNM are offered jobs in medical departments as they gain the necessary skills and education. They can find work in hospitals, clinics, and health departments, or as private health care providers. GNM diploma holders can also work as community volunteers and for non-governmental organisations that promote medical awareness. Diploma holders can either look for work or enrol in B.Sc Nursing programmes.

Individuals who complete GNM can work as a Home Nurse, Staff Nurse, Community Health Worker, Health Visitor, Clinic Nurse Specialist, Certified Nursing Assistant, Nursing Tutor in both the private and public sectors, including hospitals, medical departments, clinics, and institutes. The salary package available to GNM Diploma holders is very appealing. They are paid between Rs. 4.9 lakh and Rs. 7 lakh per year. Salary increases in accordance with their profile and experience in the same field.
