Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery or ANM is a 2 year diploma course. This course imparts knowledge and training in the field of maternity care and providing assistance to new mothers during pregnancy and post delivery. Students pursuing this course get not only theoretical knowledge but also practical training which makes them a skilled individual in this field. ANM is the most basic course and is of the shortest duration, and in the meantime the students learn all the work and patience involved with the profession.

The recognition body for ANM or any nursing course is Indian Nursing Council. According to this, candidates opting for this course must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45% from a recognized university in Science/Commerce/Arts any stream. The student must have English as a compulsory subject in 10+2.

ANM Nursing freshers have several choices after the completion of their diploma course. They can join as a Community Health Worker, Home Nurse, Health Visitor, Basic Health Worker & Rural Health Worker. Some students also pursue their higher education after completing ANM. ANM Diploma holders can opt for General Nursing Midwives or GNM course from any recognized university.

Individuals can work either in Government or Private hospitals as staff nurse, Nursing Assistant, ICU Nurse etc. Students also pursue GNM after completion of ANM course. In order to start a career in Government sector, candidate needs to qualify the exam held by the government.
