Hotel Management courses are highly popular courses among students after the completion of 10+2. Hotel Management course is offered at two levels- Bachelors in HM and Diploma in HM. Students are often confused between both these courses. So let us have a look on detailed information and difference between these courses.

Bachelor in Hotel Management

  • BHM is a four year full fledged undergraduate course that is pursued by students after the completion of 10+2.
  • This course focuses on topics such as different facets of hotel industry. It deals with a range of aspects like Front-office, housekeeping, food & beverage production and food & beverage service.
  • The eligibility for pursuing BHM is that a student must have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 50% in any stream (Arts, Commerce or Science) from a recognized board.
  • The minimum age limit to pursue this course is 17years and the maximum age limit is 22years.
  • The average course fee of BHM is 3lakh to 3.5lakh per annum.
  • Subjects of the subjects taught in BHM are Introduction to Hospitality & Tourism Industry, Food & Beverage Service, Food Production, Food Office Operations, Business Communication, Accommodation Operation, Bakery, Hospitality Accounting Management, Food Sciences & Nutrition, Global Food Trends, Human Resources Management.
  • Graduates can work as Kitchen Chef, Front Desk Officer, Receptionist, Cabin Crew, Event Manager, Hotel Manager, etc
  • Some of the recruiting companies and hotels are Taj Group of Hotels, Oberoi Group, Ambassador Group of Hotels, Sarovar Park Group of Hotels, Holiday Inn Group of Hotels, etc.

 

Diploma in Hotel Management

  • DHM is a one year diploma course taught after the completion of class 10th. Although DHM can be pursued after class 12th
  • This course focuses on the study of management techniques associated with catering and hotel administration.
  • The eligibility of DHM is that a student must have passed 10th or 12th with a minimum of 50% from any stream (Arts, Science or Commerce).
  • The maximum age limit to pursue this course is 25years.
  • The average fee of DHM is 40,000rs to 50,000rs per annum.
  • Some of the subjects taught in DHM are Sales and Marketing, Financial Management, Hotel and Catering Law, Accommodation operation, Principles of Accounting, Facility Planning, Financial Management, Property Management, Food and Beverages Services, Food Office Operation, Hotel Maintenance, etc.
  • Graduates can work as Hotel Manager, Front Manager, Banquet Manager, Housekeeping Manager, etc.
  • Some of the recruiting companies and hotels are Oberoi Hotels, ITC Group of Hotels, Hilton Group of Hotels, Fortune Park Group Of Hotels, Peerless Group of Hotels, Jaypee Group of Hotels, etc

BHM and DHM are both career oriented course. But these two courses have some of the differences which must be noted clearly by the students. There is a lot of scope in hotel industry and individuals can work not only domestically but internationally.
