MSc Agronomy or Master of Science in Agronomy is a professional postgraduate Agriculture course. It is a two year course which is divided into 4 semesters in which student learns about the concepts in the field of agriculture. Agronomy is the application of science and technology of producing and using plants for fuel, food and land restoration. It is the combination of science subjects like chemistry, biology, economics, genetics, ecology and earth science. It is an agricultural science that deals with principles and practices of crop production and field management. Subjects studied under this course are modern concepts in crop production, herbicides and crop production, physiological aspect of crop yield, physiology of drought, principles of crop nutrition, physiology of crop plants, agricultural research organizations, advanced crop ecology, applied conservation agronomy, advanced irrigation agronomy, arid zone agronomy, cropping and farming systems and agro-meteorology. This course helps students to gain knowledge of animal and plants organisms, their functions, cell divisions, inter dependencies, and their interactions with each other and the environment. Master’s degree in agronomy trains students through both theoretical and practical knowledge so that they can conduct research in irrigation and drainage, crop rotation, soil classification, plant breeding, soil fertility, weed control, and other areas.
