National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a national level entrance exam formerly called All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). This exam is for the students who wish to pursue undergraduate medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), and AYUSH (BAMS), (BUMS), (BHMS). Students qualifying NEET are granted admission in paramedical courses also.

NEET is a single medical entrance exam all over India held for medical and dental colleges. Students from all over India appear for this exam every year. NEET is conducted by NTA once a year. In pen-paper mode, this exam is held in 11 languages.

EXAM PATTERN

  • The paper comprises of 180 multiple choice questions divided among Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. 45 questions each (Physics and Chemistry) and 90 questions (Biology).
  • Paper comprises of total 720 marks.
  • The total time allotted to the students is 180 minutes.
  • Each correct answer fetches 4marks and each incorrect answer gets 1 negative mark.
  • Medium of paper is English/ Hindi/ Urdu, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Gujarati, Tamil, Marathi, Assamese, and Oriya

ELIGIBILITY

  • Nationality :        Indian, OCIs and NRIs
  • Qualifying Exam :        10+2 in physics, chemistry and biology (PCB)
  • Qualifying Marks :        GN – 50% marks GN-PH – 45% SC/ST & OBC – 40%
  • Age Limit :        17 years as on 31st Dec 2021, No upper age limit

 

NEET-UG syllabus consists of Physics, Chemistry and Biology taught in classes 11 and 12 as prescribed by the NCERT. After the declaration of the results, a merit list is released and an All India Rank (AIR) is allotted to each candidate.

Counseling is conducted thereafter for 15% of state seats, central institutes, and deemed universities. The counseling for the remaining 85% of state quota seats and private colleges is done by the medical boards of respective states. States prepare their separate merit list on basis of NEET-UG results.

Hence NEET is a popular exam among science students who wish to qualify it for getting admission in medical and dental colleges eventually making a bright career.
