Polytechnic is a diploma course in technical education that focuses on imparting knowledge related to engineering field. It is a 3 year professional course which can be pursued after either class 10th or class 12th. The duration of the course for students appearing after High School is 3years whereas for students appearing after class 12th is 2 years. The demand for Polytechnic course has increased gradually. Different branches of Polytechnic are Diploma in Civil Engineering, Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Diploma in Computer Engineering etc.

There are several private as well as public colleges that offer Polytechnic course. For getting admission in Polytechnic govt. college, one must qualify an entrance exam conducted at National or State level. Admission in government college is done through counseling. On the other hand, admissions are taken directly in private colleges on merit basis. Private colleges are well to do and provide scholarship facility to the students. These colleges have huge campus, experienced faculties, free Wi fi connectivity, well equipped laboratories, gymnasium, libraries, swimming pools, infirmaries etc., After completing Polytechnic, students can either pursue Bachelor in Engineering (B. Tech) or they can also opt for working in the private or public sector. After completing the diploma course students get recruited in companies like Bombay Dyeing, Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, HCL, Infosys, Siemens etc. Colleges organize placement programs through which diploma holders are recruited in reputed companies.
